The southwest—and Tucson in particular—enjoys a rich and delectable local cuisine. But Amanda and Alex, owners of Desert Provisions, noticed a lack of authentic local spices to send back to friends and family elsewhere in the country. We dug deep into southwest food history, how home cooks use their spices, and what resources might be valuable to accompany such high-quality spices. Products are sourced from the desert and celebrate the unique aspects distinct to the area: All-natural chile powders from Hatch, New Mexico and salt from the Sea of Cortez. A minimal, refreshing aesthetic compliments the tired flaming-letters-on-bright-red jars you'd find at souvenir shops in Arizona. And a website full of recipes for the kitchen and the bar continues engagement.
